Tribute and grieving my Brother. Keto story by Annie Tomsik
My brother died this week. He didn't die from Covid-19. He didn't died from old age. He was an average 57 year old man who died after 6 years of illness. Like many Americans of this generation, he gained weight which turned into a Type 2 Diabetes.
I am angry. Not because he died. Not because he was sick. But because like most people he wouldn't listen. Here I am, a nurse. I have a 25 year career in the medical field. But because what I had said didn't make sense to him; he decide I must be wrong.
The sad truth is that for so many years the medical community has been telling us to "eat from the foods of the pyramid", "eat low fat", "whole grain foods are healthy", "all vegetables are good for you". In fact most of our medical community is as mislead as we are.
So if they are misleading, how does this story play out? When my brother got sick with diabetes, I told him what I knew. " Take Care of your feet", "don't drink light beer or any beer", "diet soda is worse then regular", "loose weight". I told him the information most doctors give their patients.
Problem is this advise doesn't work! So after my brother's first amputation, I found out I had diabetes. I got scared. I didn't want to be like him. My doctor gave me the same advice and I freaked out. She said she wanted to start me on oral insulin. That's exactly where my brother started.
I went home with the determination that I was not going to end up like my brother. That's when I began researching and I found the Ketogenic Lifestyle. I saw how many people had reversed their diabetes, and kept their freedom. If I hadn't been so afraid to become my brother, I would never have discovered the one thing that saved my life.
This week my brother lost his battle. But through this I have become a stronger person. Because of this I am determined to live the Ketogenic Lifestyle, and teach others how to do the same.
