MARCH MADNESS IS A COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT THAT STARTS In MARCH every year. 

However last year due to the Covid 19 virus the tournament was cancelled the for the first time in many years.

Announced by the NCAA many new security and other rules and regulations will be used for the 2021 March Madness Tournament. Including if a team is found with any Covid19 Virus symptoms or exposures they will be removed from the tournament before March 14th 2021. Also if a team is found with any Covid 19 symptoms or exposures after March 14th 2021 the team will be eliminated from the tournament.

Some games will be played in bubbles, and some other rules and regulations may also be added.

BASICS OF HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

Games are played in rounds reducing the teams as follows. 

The tournament starts with 64 teams, and is reduced to 32,16,8,4,2 and than a Champion is crowned.  

The rounds are known as the First and Second Round, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4, and the NCAA Championship Game

Four teams are also given a chance to enter the tournament as 62 teams are pre selected. The four teams play and  the winners enter the tournament as the last two teams to make a total of 64 teams. 

On March 14th a day that has been named SELECTION SUNDAY the teams will be announced for the tournament.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:
  • Selection Sunday — 6 p.m. ET March 14
  • First Four — 4 p.m. start on Thursday, March 18
  • First round — 12 p.m. start on Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20
  • Second round — 12 p.m. start on Sunday, March 21, and Monday, March 22
  • Sweet 16 — 2 p.m. start on Saturday, March 27, and 1 p.m. start on Sunday, March 28
  • Elite Eight — 7 p.m. start on Monday, March 29, and 6 p.m. start on Tuesday, March 30
  • Final Four — 5 p.m. start on Saturday, April 3
  • NCAA championship game — 9 p.m. Monday, April 5

HISTORY:

The tournament has been going on since 1939. The name was given to the tournament by a Illinois High School Official named Henry V. Porter who referred to basketball tournament as March Madness.

THE PERFECT BRACKET ODDS:

Millions of people do brackets world wide but the odds of a perfect bracket is 1 in 9.2 quintillion.
Matter of fact there has been no one that has made a perfect bracket that has been verified in the history of the tournament.
In 2019 a bracket made by Gregg Nigl made history by making all the correct calls to game 50.
Before that the record was 39 correct picks.
