So what exactly does NO SUGAR ADDED MEAN?

According to the FDA guidelines: The product can not be processed with any sugar or sugar containing ingrediants. However the products can have natural sugars or sugar alcohol or arificial sweetners.

So what exactly does ZERO SUGAR MEAN ?

According to the FDA quidelines ZERO SUGAR means the product has less than .05 grams of sugar. The product can use artificial sweetners however.

WHAT IS SUGAR ALCOHOL ?

Sugar alcohol is known as POLYOS. They accour naturally in foods and come from plant products such as fruits or berries.

I wrote a blog a while back ago IS THERE GOOD AND BAD SUGAR and this blog CAN YOU LIVE ONE DAY WITHOUT SUGAR and also this blog NO SUGAR WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD if you would like some information and education on sugar and the cuases and affects it has on the human body.

You also might want to read this blog I did about NO SUGAR or ZERO SUGAR DR PEPPER.

Recently there has been an explosion of products that say NO SUGAR ADDED, ZERO SUGAR, or NO SUGAR

The AHA suggest that added sugers should remain under 100 calories per day or 6 teaspoons or 24 grams of sugar. The max sugar for men daily should be around 150 calories and for women 100 calories. In America the average person is consuming more than three times the recommended maxuim per day. This adds up to around 60 pounds of sugar annualy per person.

The debate is: Are these products ( artifical sweetners) any better for the human body and our overall health?

The Mayo Clinic did some studies on artifical sweetners and the affects on the human body. This is what the report and studies found to be true:

Artificial sweetners do not contribute to tooth decay and cavities.

They also help with Weight Control and Diabetes.

However artfical sweetners had also been thought to contribute to Cancer, and at one point there was a warning printed on products that stated: It may be hazardous to your health

After research and studies done however there was no scientfic evidence that the artifical sweetners contributed to Cancer so the warning was removed.

These artifical sweetners can cause a laxative effect, bloating, gas and diarreha.

The AHA ( American Heart Assocation) and the ADA ( American Dibetes Assocation) both approved using artifical sweetners to fight obesity, metobolic syndrome, diabetes, and reduce heart disease.

However in some recent studies not involving human subjects these articial sweetners showed weight increases, brain tumors, bladder cancer, and other medical conditions.

You have to ask yourself what is really better keeping the sugar under the reccomended amount or using artifical sweetners ?

Is one really better than the other ?

Just in our LIFESTYLE we rarly use artifical sweetners, we might once in a while if we are making a special dish. I personaly do not drink any type of soda or drinks that say NO SUGAR, ZERO SUGAR, or NO SUGAR ADDDED. For the most part I drink water and tea, and my wife Annie likes Coffee.

As far as products with artifical sweetners once in a while we do consume some but it is very limited. I have found they upset my stomach and digestive system if to much is consumed.

This should be something to discuss with your HEALTH CARE PROVIDER as well!
