Homeless and Panhandling in the winter months in Reno NV
As many you might have read some of my blogs about the homeless and panhandling in the Washoe County Area. So in the summer months people can camp out in tents and other types of shelters but as the winter months hit in late October and usually runs through March. Sometimes winter has gone all the way to June. In the Winter in the Washoe County area temperatures drop into the 40's and 50's in the day and can go all the way down below Zero in the evenings. Snow can go from light to heavy as last year was one of the winters that made records around Washoe County.
Believe it or not many of the places where you see panhandling around the area does not slow down. I see a little less during really harsh weather but even in the snow and cold you see the panhandlers out with signs. Mostly at major lights and shopping areas.
Some extra shelters are opened in Washoe County area but sometimes these shelters are over crowded or even full. Some of them have many rules and regulations for the people staying at the shelters.
Here are some photos from the last time I went around the Reno and Sparks area.
