RENO BIGHORNS REACQUIRE LUIS MONTERO
RENO, NEV. – The Reno Bighorns announced today that they have reacquired forward Luis Montero.
Montero, 6-7, 190, rejoins the Bighorns after signing a Two-Way contract with the Detroit Pistons at the end of July 2017. He saw action in two games for Detroit and 14 games (14 starts) with the Grand Rapid Drive, averaging 14.2 points (.398 FG%, .330 3pt%, .775 FT%) 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Drive.
He played 49 games last season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce and the Bighorns. In 36 games with Sioux Falls (15 starts), Montero averaged 8.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 24.4 minutes per game. He was traded to Reno in early March 2 and averaged 8.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals in 13 games with the Bighorns. Montero played in four games with the with the Santa Cruz Warriors during the 2015-16 season and averaged 16.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks in 28.3 minutes per game. In his rookie NBA campaign (2015-16), Montero averaged 1.2 points (.263 FG%, .750 FT%) in 3.5 minutes per contest in 12 games for the Portland Trailblazers.
The Dominican Republic native played one year at Westchester Community College (2013-14) where he averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Montero is expected to join the Bighorns tonight when they host the Northern Arizona Suns at 7 p.m. at the Reno Events Center.
