Football and other leagues you may not be aware of by The Outlaw Micheal Tomsik
In America it seems that we sports fans only seem to care about the four most popular leagues:
National Football League NFL
National Basketball Association NBA
Major League Baseball MLB
National Hockey League NHL
However my years of experience working with semi professional and other sports leagues lead me down a path of discovery. There are many sports and leagues that people have no idea even exist.
So why is it that only these four sports leagues survive on top of the food chain.
Arena Football League or AFL was founded in 1987. It is an indoor football league played on a 50 yard field. The league expanded into 2009 and even had a secondary league called AFL2. However in 2009 the entire company was dissolved and reorganized and re-launched in 2010. The league existed but was very small through the year 2016. The League is still around today but it never has gained the fans and recognition the league had before the 2009 season. This league still exist today however you do not see or hear much about the league.
Legends of Football League or LFL was founded under Lingerie Football League in 2009. This was one of the first all women leagues in football history. However it was re-branded in 2013. This league expanded into Canada and Austria in 2012 ans 2013. This league does very well outside the USA and has expanded into several other countries. It still exist today but you do not see or hear much about this league in the local or national news.
American Basketball Association or ABA was founded in 1967. In 1975 a merger with some other leagues several teams joined the NBA. The league stayed closed until 1999 it was re-established. Currently the league exist and one big difference is the ball they use in the ABA.
United Football League or UFL was founded in 2009. However this league only lasted a few years closing the doors in 2012. Funny thing is I covered this league and was tossed out of the office in Jacksonville Florida.
Gridirion Developmental Football League or GDFL was founded in 2009. As of 2017 this league has been established mostly on the East and Mid Western States. This league is not seen on any major TV networks but I had an opportunity to interview the founder Charles Thompson on my radio show and I felt this league had a lot of potential in the future.
USA Rugby League or USRLA was founded in 2011. This league has also remained in the East Coast. This league also does well in other countries. It is still in operation today.
Independent Amateur Hockey League or NAHL was formed in or around 1996. Currently this league is still operational and has expanded into several other foreign countries.
So here is the answer why other leagues do not make it in America is people do not give leagues a chance or the people running the leagues have no clue how to get past local news and media. I covered many of these leagues during my 4 years with operating Outlaw Sports Radio and Outlaw Sports Entertainment. Many times the arenas had few fans, and local media and news did not want to cover these games. I was at one ABA game that we broadcast-ed we reached over 1 million fans.
I love covering these types of leagues and games and sports I feel these people are the true story, the true spirit and have the true love of sports. This is why I want to come back and cover these sports.
