Springfield Missouri list of FREE stuff you can do with your kids or family by The Outlaw Micheal Tomsik
Here is a list of things my family has done and they are all FREE in Springfield Missouri!
GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66:
Route 66 is fairly popular still however in Springfield there is really not much left of the original road. On your GPS find College Street to start off find Chestnut Express Way and College Street. Once on College Street you will start to see Route 66 signs and some stops for photos. If you follow the street you will find a Route 66 Car Museum but it is not FREE. It cost around $15 but you still can take photos outside the building. Following the road you will come to an area where you will find the Route 66 Wall and also a Silver Route 66 piece of Artwork. Unfortunately this is about all there is on Route 66 any more in Springfield. You can make a day of Route 66 from Springfield to Saint Louis however.
BUTTERFLY PALACE and BOTANICAL GARDENS:
Located off Scientific Road in Springfield there is a small Butterfly Palace and plenty of gardens to stroll around. This park offers plenty of space you can walk around the lake and see a variety of different plants. One of the more popular gardens is the Japanese Stroll. There is a $3 fee at the Japanese Stroll.
DOLING FAMILY PARK:
Located at 301 E Talmage in Springfield. This is a nice park with a small pound and plenty of space but the main attraction is a cave that is available for FREE. Though you can not go into the cave very far unless the city is offering tours that day it is something you can enjoy.
FRISCO HIGHLAND TRAIL:
The Trail starts in Springfield on Kearny going toward the Airport and goes 37 miles to Bolivar. This is a good place to take a stroll or attempt the entire Trail but it goes through Willard and has many interesting views and rest stops. You can check out some of the smaller towns the path goes through.
MISSOURI INSTITUTE OF NATURAL SCIENCE:
Located at 2327 Farm Road 190 this is a smaller museum but will enjoy it!
TAKE A STROLL DOWNTOWN PLAZA WHERE BILL HI COCK HAD A DUEL:
Located downtown you can take a stroll through the downtown area that offers plenty of shops, restaurants and you can stand in the very spot a duel happened. There also is a ART walk where you can stroll around the downtown area and search various art pieces. There is also a museum downtown but it is not free.
SPRINGFIELD ART MUSEUM:
Located at 1111 Brookside Drive this museum offers a look at various art and artist and it changes all the time.
SPRINGFIELD CONSERVATION NATURE CENTER AND TRAIL:
Located at 4601 S Nature Way and offers many trails and usually has a small area to view some local wildlife but this part has been closed during Covid 19.
PRO BASS SHOP:
Located at 1935 Campbell Ave offers a huge shop for sports minded people and even if you do not like sports this company goes all out there are several museums and live animals you can see all while shopping. Also the Aquarium is located here but it is not free.
