Annie and I moved to Springfield Missouri in 2019 from Reno Nevada. This was a pretty big change for us however we have come to really love and enjoy Missouri. Springfield is the 3rd largest city following Saint Louis and Kansas City. The population according to the Census Department reports for 2025 the population sits at around 170,0000 but if you factor in all the little towns and cities it is reported as upwards close to 500,000.
Springfield MO calls its fame from being THE BIRTHPLACE OF ROUTE 66. It also has been known as QUEEN CITY OF THE OZARKS.
The city also is well known for hosting BASS PRO SHOP, and a history with food that started with the Springfield Cashew Chicken.
Springfield is known for outdoor adventures with many caves and caverns plus education is huge here with three colleges Missouri State University, Drury, and Evangel.
Springfield itself has an interesting story to tell including being part of the Trail of Tears, Civil War, Wild Bill Hickok, the Rail Road, and at one time there was a North and South Springfield.
Annie and I have lived in Springfield for 6 years as of Oct 2026. Springfield has many smaller cities or towns near by including: Ozark, Nixa, Republic, Battlefield, Willlard, and Strafford. However the most famous and visited city that is about 45 minutes away is Branson Missouri.
Branson is tied to the music industry and offers a theme park, and tourist attractions and shows.
Springfield is the top leader in the Health Care Industry with two large hospitals Cox and Mercy. Followed by Education and Manufacturing, Food, and Retail are the top industries in the area.
Sports in Springfield are huge as well with football, basketball, soccer, and a minor league baseball team in the area. Springfield hosts a lot of different events including fairs, cook offs, classic car shows, flea markets, and other entertainment that keeps the city moving.
Springfield hosts a small zoo and a safari park just outside the city in Strafford. It has many walking and nature trails around the city that people enjoy.
Springfield host an indoor mall called the Battlefield Mall, and you will not find a lot of shopping stores as Walmart is the top company here though there are some smaller specialty food stores in the area.
Growing trends in Springfield lately have been Coffee Shops, Car Washes, and new food chains opening up in the area. The city is undergoing re-modeling in some areas like downtown and Commercial Street.
Springfield weather is an ever ongoing changing season this year. The area gets all four seasons of weather. Springfield is prone to heavy thunder storms, tornadoes in some areas, and ice and snow storms.
In the Branson area some places shut down during the winter due to the weather.
Annie and I enjoy living in Springfield we have called it home just like any other city it has its issues and problems. Living here is not what people think anymore people have a notion to think Missouri is all about Hillbillies but though there is some history to that Springfield is a city of top education, leading in industry, and growth.
