You read about it on the internet, see it in the local news people talking about POKEMON CARDS.
I have been doing a recent series about GRADING cards from Pokemon.
People are talking about Grading Cards and Pricing Cards.
I myself made a choice a few months ago to use three companies to grade my cards.
THE MAIN REASONS TO GRADE A CARD:
AUTHENTICATION of the card
CONDITION of the card
FINANCIAL values
PROTECTION of the CARD
WHO DEVELOPED THE CURRENT SYSTEM?
The fact is graded cards hold more value and are worth more money but this is all based on a Graded System from 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest grade and 10 being the highest grade.
This system was developed by the leading company called PSA in 1991. This led to other companies following the system and the system that is used currently today.
HOW ARE THE CARDS PRICED AND WHO PRICES THEM?
There is no one that really is responsible for setting the price on a card the prices are based on an open market. This is based on Supply, Demand, and completed transactions that have been recorded. One company called Price Charting has become a top company that posts current prices on Raw and Graded cards. Some other companies and apps have also been developed.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO GRADE A CARD?
These are prices from the top two companies:
PSA $25 to $80
CGC $17 to $55
These are the prices from the three I use:
Degree $15 to $25
Golden $5 to $25
MPE $5 to $25
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET CARDS GRADED?
For bulk submissions all the companies are about the same 4 to 6 months, you can pay more to get cards faster with all the companies. MPE and Golden go up about $2 to $4 per card to get them in 30 days. You can pay up to $25 to get them next day.
OTHER THINGS THESE COMPANIES HAVE IN COMMON:
All the companies also charge a Shipping Fee to and from the grading company.
All the companies basically use the same system to grade the cards.
CLOSING ARGUMENT FROM ME:
The entire Community of Pokemon Collectors, Business ,Vendors, and these companies are on the verge of change. More and more people are starting to use these other companies because they get the same quality of service and final product. The issue is many are resisting the change staying loyal to mostly PSA as the king of the industry.
The last two big shows I did I was the only Vendor selling from these companies.
