Our experience with Food Delivery in Reno Nevada

In my prior blog I talked about the industry of FOOD DELIVERY in the RENO Nevada area.
Three companies emerged as top companies Door Dash, Uber Eats, and Grub Hub.
Here are links to my other blogs regarding these companies:

So after I wrote a few blogs Annie and I signed up for two of the companies:
Door Dash and Uber Eats.
Since we have been doing the deliveries with these companies I am basing this blog on our experiences.
I read an article in the Reno newspaper today about all these companies.
I felt the article sucked.
It had no true information about doing this type of work.

So here are some things you should be aware of  if your choosing to do this:

WHAT IS MEANS TO BE AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR:
All 3 companies have a few things in common as well as other smaller companies.
The Companies only offer you to work as a INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR.
What this means is even though the companies assign you the jobs and pay you the companies do not take out any type of taxes for FEDERAL/STATE or UNEMPLOYMENT or SOCIAL SECURITY.
Essentially your SELF EMPLOYED and responsible for these taxes.
You also could get an EIN Number and pay your taxes this way as being Self Employed.
Also as being a contractor most all  State and Federal Labor laws do not apply.
It is important that you take this into consideration as part of doing this type of work.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO MAKE DOING FOOD DELIVERY IN RENO/SPARKS NEVADA:
Once we joined  the companies we heard many stories of people making up to $24 an hour.
However since we have been doing it I can tell you that is not the case.
HERE IS WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED WITH UBER EATS AND DOOR DASH ONLY:
The average fee on DOOR DASH is about $7 per delivery, and UBER EATS is about $5 per delivery. ( NOT SURE FOR GRUB HUB)
Though both companies offer incentives during peak times, and sometimes you can make up to $11 per delivery. The highest rate I have seen is is $11 per delivery on either company!
We have noticed on average you can at least do 2 deliveries per hour with either company.
Based on this average you could average $10 to $14 per hour and sometimes up to $22 per hour doing deliveries with the incentives if available.
Also take into consideration you car maintenance, time, and other expenses.

TIPS: I have interviewed and also been doing the deliveries. While companies offer customers a way to leave tips it seems customers feel paying the delivery fee is enough. We have noticed and talked with several delivery people of both companies who tell us the same thing TIPS are very low.
I have had some open discussions on Facebook about this and wrote this blog:
TIPPING

OVER SATURATION OF DELIVERY DRIVERS:
We have noticed on both companies there are times that there are no deliveries available.
During times where the incentives are available seems there are less deliveries and more delivery people.
In doing this type of work you must wait to be assigned jobs and accept them through the apps the companies use. So your waiting for assigned jobs and it is possible you may or may not get jobs.
None of the companies release exactly how many delivery people or how many deliveries are available to the Contractors or Clients.
However it has been reported that this industry is expect to increase not decrease in the area.

NEWS RECENTLY:
DOOR DASH signed up Chick Fl Lay, Wendy's, Panda Express, and also is doing grocery deliveries with Wal Mart.
UBER EATS has a larger selection of restaurants only at this time.
Some restaurants use all 3 companies and some do not.
There are still a lot of fast food places that could join either company as well in the area.
Analyst predict this industry is on the rise and shows no signs of decreasing.
