Uber Eats vs Door Dash vs Grub Hub delivery driver jobs

So I wanted to discuss a new opportunity that has hit the Reno area and other areas recently.
It is all about delivery driving.
I wanted to find out what company is the best, and what are the pros and cons of delivery driving.
So I found three companies here in Reno area you can click each to link to them.
UBER EATS
DOOR DASH
GRUB HUB

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE DELIVERY DRIVER?
Most of these positions require a car or some type of transportation to deliver food from the restaurant to the consumer.
All the companies require a drivers license, and auto insurance.
All the companies require you are over 18 years of age.
All the companies do a credit check and background check on drivers.

WHAT ALL THE COMPANIES HAVE IN COMMON?
All three companies are independent contractor positions meaning that you will be responsible for  social security, federal or state taxes, and other government fees.
All three companies operate on an APP
All three companies use a credit or debit system for the customer.

 PROS of DELIVERY DRIVING:
These companies offer the restaurants and customers an opportunity to have food delivered to a door step.
It helps smaller restaurants who would benefit from delivery service but can not afford to hire delivery drivers.
It helps customers that want to have food delivered from a variety of restaurants.
It also creates employment for delivery drivers.
If you like exploring your city and meeting new people this is great opportunity.
You can make your own schedule and deliver when ever you feel up to working.

 CONS of DELIVERY DRIVING:
Being an independent contractor is basically called self employed and makes you responsible for all government fees and taxes.
Gas and Car maintenance cost.
You Are only paid for the pick up and delivery not the trip to the restaurant or the trip after drop off of the food.
Finding address while delivery of food.
Waiting for restaurants to prepare food.
Parking at restaurants and customers.
Driving during high traffic times and possible accidents.
Bad weather driving such as rain or snow.

WAGES:
One thing I found out in talking to drivers was a complete surprise about the wages.
While a few of the ads from all three of the companies say you can make $20 to $25 per hour I think this is incorrect information.
Most of the drivers I talked to told me they average between $10 to $12 per hour after car maintenance and gas cost.
This was also including tips.

TIPS:
While tips are optional for the customer most of the delivery people I talked to did not seem to get a lot in tips or just did not want to tell me. However on all three companies you can accept tips in cash or the customer can tip you through the payment system if you op in to do that.

So lets talk about the companies and what company is the BEST in this area:

#3) GRUB HUB
This company got last place out of all three companies.
The reason being it just has not expanded well and has a limited amount of restaurants.
I found few restaurants using this company and the lest amount of delivery drivers working for this company.

#2) DOOR DASH
This company got a bad reputation from the opening of the company in Reno in 2017. If you research the company  it listed restaurants that it did not use or have contracts with. However in 2018 there are more restaurants in this company and I found a few more delivery drivers working for Door Dash than Grub Hub. However this company does it a little different giving the Delivery person a debit card to use. The Delivery person makes the order, and delivers it to the customer.

#1) UBER EATS
This company wins hands down First Place as the best of these three companies.
They have over 50 restaurants and a lot of delivery drivers working for the company.
The app is easy to use both for the customer and the delivery driver.
I actually had got to see the whole system work and it is amazing.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS:
There is one other concern I have for these companies is over saturation of delivery drivers.
There is no way to tell how many people are doing this as work (full time or part time).
So you have to ask is there going to be to many delivery people?
Will effect what one person could make doing this type of work.?
Will the restaurants want to continue the service?
Is the customer willing to pay to have food delivered?

It will be interesting to see where this type of industry goes with new technology like drone delivery systems or self driving cars or other factors it may maintain a vital part of the food industry.
