Outlaw Review on the Movie Rampage

Dwayne Johnson has made a real career on the movie screen he has so many movies and has no need for his WWE days as the Rock. This movie was based on the older video game called Rampage.

In the Video Game you can choose three monsters George the Ape, Ralph the Wolf, Lizzie the Lizard who are transformed from a human form to monsters. Than they go through level after level destroying the cities, eating other humans, and fighting the army forces.  In the video game the goal is destroy all the levels and than the game starts over.

The movie played a spin on the game using genetic altering from of course a corporate company who was attempting to make super genetic animals to what else take over the world. In the movie Dwayne Johnson plays a part where he works in a Zoo and has developed a strong bong with an albino ape named George.

THIS DOES CONTAIN A MOVIE SPOILER ALERT SO DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW HOW THE MOVIE ENDS!

The company that was making this genetic altering chemical had been shut down but they took some of the experiment to outer space and apparently used it on a Rat. The Rat turned on the crew and they blew up the space ship but one of the staff escapes with 4 of the experimental containers. However the Rat had scratched the pods glass and it blows up and the 3 containers are released to Earth. They never say what happened to the 4th container.

So to fit in with the game 1 container land near a wolf pack and a wolf gets exposed to the chemical, 1 container lands in the swamp and it eaten by a crock who gets exposed to the chemical, and 1 container lands in the Zoo where George lives and he is exposed as well.

They first show George growing and becoming more aggressive, and than the Government gets involved of course. The bad guys of the company learn of the wolf and hire a team to take it out but that fails, also George escapes and is on his own.

Mean while the Government gets help from an x employee played by Naomie Harris. The bad guys sent up a signal from the company building in Chicago to attract the monsters so they can get samples of the DNA.

Dwayne Johnson and the x employee played by Naomie Harris learn there is a cure to stop the monsters from being so aggressive and violent but also learn the monsters are indestructible and can regenerate. They all head to the city to see if they can find the cure and stop the monsters but the bad guys have other ideas of course.

DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO FIND OUT HOW THE MOVIE ENDS!

Johnson and Harris get to the building after a few hair raising crashes and the bad guys shoot Johnson in the gut area. They manage to get the cure and feed George the female bad guy and so he gets cured and goes back to his old self and helps fight the other monsters.

The crock Lizzy and the wolf Ralph fight and Lizzy kills the wolf Ralph ( warning only part of movie kids may want to cover eyes).

Than George and Johnson fight Lizzy and this is where I have a huge issue with the movie. George eventually takes a rod and slams it through the eye of Lizzy apparently killing the crock. However I I mentioned above the monsters had been able to regenerate and seemed indestructible so I really do not understand how Lizzy could have not recovered from the staff through the eye and brain.

In the end George is thought to be dead as well but he is playing Johnson and some humor is found at the end of the movie with George. I also read in the original script George was suppose to die as well.

We decided the movie was good but not good enough to watch a second time, and there are a lot of plot holes in the movie. However for a movie based on a video game it was worth it.
