One thing I earned my name from was talking about Sports and stories that make you think about the whole entire story. Sports has a lot of interesting twist and turns so could a person say THE OUTLAW MICHEAL TOMSIK make a real case against the Sports Industry to say that IT IS FIXED or RIGGED or that some shady stuff is going on in sports. So lets take a look here in 2018 at the US SUPREME COURT is hearing the case to make SPORTS BETTING LEGAL in all states in the US. Currently the only State taking sports wagers is NEVADA. Though it is legal in Oregon, Montana, and Delaware.These three states only had or have sports wagering through the lottery or have very strict rules and regulations on how the sports van be wagered on.
The law passed called the Professional and Armature Sports Protection Act of 1992 blocked any other States in the US from having sports wagering.
This year the US SUPREME COURT is in the middle of re visiting the idea of making Sports Wagering legal a decision is suppose to be announced around June or July of 2018.
Here are some real facts and information about sports wagering:
NEVADA GAMING COMMISSION reported that Nevada Sports Books reportedly made 250 Million Dollars in revenues in 2017 from sports wagering.
NEVADA GAMING COMMISSION reported that in 2011 3.2 Billion dollars was wagered on sports, 1.34 Billion was wagered just on football, 98.9 million dollars was wagered by sports fans.
NEVADA GAMING COMMISSION reported in 2016 that in 2016 291 Billion was wagered on football alone. In 2016 wagering was a 11.6 Billion Dollar industry.
It is estimated that illegal wagering is around a 400 Billion Dollar Industry.
It is estimated that making Sports Betting Legal could be a 6.3 Billion Dollar industry.
The four leagues that fought against Sports Wagering are the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB, but also the NCAA has fought against sports wagering being legal.
However the NBA released a statement that if the law is changed they want 1 percent of every wager made on NBA games.
The NCAA has a ban on sports wagering for money it is reported that at least 8 percent of college students and players wager on sports monthly. It is also reported that almost every college that has a sports program has some form of illegal sports wagering.
Major League Baseball is opposed to making sports wagering legal however also want the 1 percent of every wager made on MLB games if passed.
The NHL actually wanted to block wagering on the new team Golden Knights and though the league is re thinking the idea they are still against making the wagering legal.
The NFL is still against the idea of legal sports wagering but states if passed they are ready for regulations.
