Would legalization of sports betting hurt or help Nevada
As many of you that follow me of FACEBOOK or TWITTER or GOOGLE are aware two years ago I took a shot at becoming a PROFESSIONAL SPORTS GAMBLER and I even wrote a book that you can find on AMAZON about the last two years of my entire experience. I still wager on sports today and you can find me on the links above.
In the past and even in my books I admit I am all for making sports wagering legal in the USA. My argument is that I believe it would create jobs, produce less crime related to illegal wagering. Also it could open a lot of doors for people in this industry.
However would it HURT or HELP NEVADA ?
Las Vegas Nevada has always been a city that is constantly changing casinos over the years have made several changes. Recently casinos started charging fees for parking, and casinos cut back on comps for customers, drinks and more. Even though the city is changing including adding a new venue for sports like Hockey and even the possible move of a NFL team to Vegas sports books could probably survive if sports wagering was legal in other states. Las Vegas will be a place of interest to people for more than sports wagering. While making sports wagering legal in other states may cut into revenues and handle in Las Vegas sports books would survive I believe.
Reno Nevada however may be another case due to the fact Reno still gets a majority of people from States like California . Reno would most likely be hit pretty hard. I say this from experience of this year of Donner Pass closing several times and seeing the impact on Reno when people can not get back and forth over the mountains. The Reno and Sparks area had at one point relied on the casino industry but recently other types of companies have expanded into Reno. Over the years many casinos have closed as well. Currently in Reno and Sparks there only 8 large casinos, and out of these 8 casinos only 3 of them operate independent sports books, all the other are owned by 1 company. There are some smaller casinos but 1 company operated the sports books in these casinos as well. The biggest hit to RENO would be if sports wagering was legal in California.
Nevada would also be hit from other nearby States like Arizona, Oregon and Utah. Oregon actually is able to have Sports Wagering along with Montana and Delaware. However these states currently only offer limited wagering or have stopped all sports wagering due to fights from the professional sports leagues.
Other towns and cities in Nevada that have sports books are nore operated by kiosk. These are ATM like machines where you can place wagers or operate mobile sport accounts.
Mobile Sports Wagering that is offered only on Nevada would definitely expand and I could see some sports books expanding and creating new business but once again it may hurt the overall Sports Wagering Industry in Nevada. Face it if you want to wager and it was legal in your State why would you want to come to NEVADA to wager in sports?
Recently our President Donald Trump was mentioned by agencies who want to get sports wagering legal. As many of you are aware Donald Trump has had experience in the casino industry. However this has never come up during the election or currently since Donald Trump took office.
I believe Nevada would be hurt by legalizing sports wagering on other States but while it may hurt Nevada it would help the overall economy and other States that legalize it.
