Review of the XFL Battlehawks vs Guardians by The Outlaw Micheal Tomsik
I found a game this week to watch and decided to blog my review of the game and league.
You have to ask what makes the XFL stand out , What will make this league different, What will draw the fans and the networks?
Will the XFL survive beyond the first year and if so why or if not why?
The good news is both ESPN and FOX have picked up the league and it looked like the stadium was pretty full in the game I saw on ESPN this Sunday.
In the game I was watching by the 3 quarter the Battle Hawks had taken a 26 to 3 lead against the Guardians.
In all honesty I did not see anything that stood out besides a regular game of football.
This could be a good and bad sign asone of the major reasons the XFL died before was the fans felt the league was fake and made up kinda like the scripted wrestling,
Fans hated this and it showed the last time the XFL was done with in one year.
The XFL has some options being a developmental league they could try different things to see if they work or if the fans hate it or love it.
Unfortunately the viewers reported are already dwindling down by this week the ratings dropped
lower than the opening week by over 2.4 million vs 2.9 million in the opening week.
HERE ARE MY OUTLAW SUGGESTIONS FOR THE LEAGUE:.
Getting the players to interact with fans and the community.
In my experience in broadcasting and following developmental leagues you have to get the local involved. Get the teams todo fund raisers, get the players into the community, and get the stories out there of the players.
Experiment with different rules and play styles.
I personally love high scoring fast paced games the ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE was famous for this. This type of football is fun because it is fast paced and the excitement of the game.
Break away from the NFL.
Don't let the NFl be the standard of your league break away and do something different.
Allow a woman to play or even a team or make a womens league:
The NFL has never allowed a woman to play in a game, nor has it ever allowed an all women's team or had a women's league. The XFl would make history and the media would go insane over this concept.
