IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHECK OUT OUR ADVENTURES AND PHOTOS:
Annie and I have a new dream to pack up our SUV and go travel or buy a small travel trailer but either way we wanna hit the road again so that we can bring you more of Inside/Out Missouri. Here are some questions I saw on Facebook that I can provide some answers for you if your considering Car Camping or Traveling on the road in an RV.
#1) Where to go to the bathroom, or get a shower, or do laundry
If you're in an RV this might be less of a question Many RVs are set up with bathrooms, shower and even laundry. However if Car Camping this question needs a good answer. I will start with laundry you most likely will have to find a local laundry mat do to do your laundry. However Annie and I had at one point bought a smaller laundry device that washed clothes. Similar to this photo below.
As far as bathrooms and showers many camp grounds offer showers and bathrooms. While on the road rest-areas, gas stations, food stores, and restaurants have bathrooms. Some truck stops like LOVES offer showers you can pay to use. Also a few people told me they use a gym membership in places like the YMCA or BOYS and GIRLS Clubs.#2) What about Mail
If you're going on a short trip the Post Office can hold mail, however If this is an extended trip or your planning full time traveling mail can be an issue. My first recommendation is if you have a family member or a friend that would be willing to collect your mail or use the address. My second recommendation is a PO BOX because the US Post Office can forward your mail, or hold it for extended periods of time. My third recommendation is to eliminate the need to get mail. Many bills can be paid online these days. Really what do we get in the mail these days?
#3) What about Prescriptions and Medical
Walmart has stores in almost every city in the USA so you may consider using the pharmacy. However if you take medications you may consider stock piling them so you have a supply for several months. As far as MEDICAL you may want to check with your insurance if you have it to see how you use it in other areas. Most likely it will only cover like an ER visit or hospital or clinic visit. Face it you may not have medical insurance so if something comes up you will need to find a way to deal with it. Having a saving or emergency fund for this would be advisable.
#4) Car Insurance, Break Down, Road Emergency
You will need to keep car insurance on an RV or vehicle you are using. It is also recommended you keep your Car Registration, and Tags in good standing. Also you will need a Drivers License to operate the vehicle or RV. These days most insurance companies have an app. I use Giego and they have a mobile app. I can pay my bills and file claims or get issues resolved through the app. I keep full insurance on my vehicles just for the fact it comes with 24 hour towing, car rentals,or even room accommodations if needed. Having a savings or emergency fund for this would be advisable.
There are some companies that offer a service where you pay a fee and if your vehicle breaks down they cover the repairs however I found many of these a scam. If you're camping and traveling in your vehicle is it gonna be one of the top priorities to keep your car in the best maintenance possible. Get Oil changes and Maintenance your car. I found Jiffy Lube and Valvoline Oil good places to take a vehicle for oil change and they do a car inspection to point out possible issues. Accidents happen and emergencies come up its part of life again being prepared for this will save you a lot of stress.
#5) Staying Safe on the Road
You have made a choice the road offers a lot of things as far as LIFE ADVENTURE goes. You want to feel safe however it is one thing we all desire. The road can definitely offer a spice of life finding places to park or camp, going to gyms, clubs, laundry mats, stores, staying at campgrounds, truck stops, or stores. One option is a pet. I see people travel with Dogs and Cats though I love my cat she is not much protection. I do love my dogs for that reason however in the time Annie and I have car camped the dogs have served as protectors and companions.
The other thing is having a network that kinda has an idea of where you are. If you have family or friends that you can kinda give an idea of where you're gonna be. Travel with someone you love or is a good friend. Bad guys usually want to stay away from getting noticed so the idea of having another person with you may deter the bad guys.
Use an app the tracks you and others can find you. however there are still places believe it or not the world wide internet does not work. You are going to have to learn to use skills that will make you feel safe. I hate to say it but a weapon may be needed or an idea. Of course I recommend getting trained to use it.
I hope these 5 questions help you on your journey I hope we see each other on the road someday!
