Annie and I have a new dream to pack up our SUV and go travel or buy a small travel trailer but either way we wanna hit the road again so that we can bring you more of Inside/Out Missouri. Like many of the people we group with or talk to the one question comes to mind:
HOW TO MAKE MONEY ON THE ROAD?
One thing you will learn about me I have no issues sharing my experience and knowledge and also sharing my mistakes so here ya go on my advice on if you wanna travel full time and make money doing it.
#1) Podcasting/Blogging/Live Streaming
After doing Radio.Internet and TV for over 22 years I will share my experience. I use GOOGLE ADS on my web page. Google ads pays you for posting ads on web pages and social media. There is another way you can add ads to your web pages or social media it is called CLICK PAY. I do not use this however you can find several companies online that offer it. This one I linked to is Amazon.
Podcasting and blogging are very popular and the competition is very intense. Making money from them will take time and patience, however you can monetize YOUTUBE. You also may want to check out web pages that offer posting blogs and videos for fans and these web pages offer donations or ways to make money involving the fans.
Some of these web pages want you to have followers before they monetize you however. Making a living from blogging or video streaming is possible but you're up against a lot of competition. You're gonna need to bring your A game. Also I would not expect or count on making the type of money you may need to travel full time but it can be done.
#2) Find a Sponsor or Media Production Company
It is possible you could have an amazing idea and selling that idea to a major media producing company could land the money you need. Many companies like Prime, Hulu, Discovery Channel often produce shows or even maybe produce your own. You may be able to find a company that would sponsor your podcast, blog or live stream. Some companies will send you products to try or review.
If you have a good audience number it will help a lot.
#3) Uber, Lyft,Walmart Sparks, Door Dash, Grub Hub, or other services
All of these ideas are real legit ways to make extra income. I will admit to you I have done them all. I never tried it on the road or while I was using my vehicle to camp in. I am not sure how they would work on the road or if you're using your vehicle to camp or live in.
It may be worth looking into however.
#4) Temporary work in State Parks or National Parks
So I worked in the Grand Canyon for nearly 2 years. I was not traveling but I was hosted in a room and worked on the search and rescue team. You can research National Parks and State Parks many of them offer temporary positions. This also may include Ski Resorts. Just do a little research in your area contact City, State , and Federal Parks and ask about Temporary positions.
#5) Day Labor Jobs
There are companies out there that offer daily pay for labor. Many of these places are manual labor but they do pay daily. You can research the area you are in but they are usually found in larger towns and cities.
#6) Remote Jobs
Since 2020 and Covid companies have moved to remote positions. Finding a company that will allow you to work from a remote location could be an option. A word of warning here there are so many scams out in the world today so make sure it is legit.
#7) Stock Market Day Trading or Passive Income from Dividends
It is true the stock market can offer you a passive income or earning from Day Trading. You will need access to a computer and $25,000 dollars for Day Trading minimum in an account. This is a federal mandate so no way around it. However you can open a stock account I currently use Charles Swab.
If you want to build a passive income from dividends from Stocks it is also possible but it will also take a bit of an investment. Stocks pay what is called a dividend using a company you're familiar with Walmart. Each stock you own would pay .21 cents per share. Currently the stock runs $ 70 per share.
To make $2000 per month in passive income you would need around 9500 shares or invest around $670,000 dollars. If you Day Trade you will be buying and selling stocks everyday to make money and profits.
#8) Offer your personal services to other car campers or people who live and travel on the road
Several opportunities could present itself like watching pets, child care, food shopping, laundry, or other services.
#9) Rent your home out, or operate a vacation rental, or rent properties out you own
Another idea is to rent out rooms, or rent your property or properties, use your property as a vacation rental. This has become very popular in the market place and may give you income to travel.
#10) Work for 6 months and travel for 6 months
It seems like an old record but if you worked 6 months out of the year and saved money to travel for 6 months or at least made enough to cover all your bills for 6 months so you could travel. Even if you worked 2 jobs you could save all the money from one income.
