This week we continue our exploration of Route 66 in Springfield Missouri. In 1926 Springfield Missouri became the Birthplace of Route 66. In Springfield Missouri the Hwy was renamed Route 66. Today in Springfield Missouri Route 66 has very few places left to see, Much of the glory of Route 66 has become forgotten but there are still some places you will want to see on your Route 66 Trip.
THE WALL and ROUTE 66 ROADSIDE PARK:
Located at 1200 West College Street Springfield Missouri the city has dedicated this Park to Route 66.
There is a wall on College Street with all kinds of art that is very interesting to see.
Located at 1534 W College Street Springfield Missouri this museum is a must stop if you're going on Route 66. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE WEB PAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
ROUTE 66 VISITOR CENTER and SAINT LOUIS STREET FOOD TRUCK STOP:
The visitor center is located at 815 E Saint Louis Street Springfield Missouri.
ROUTE 66 FOOD TRUCK STOP:
Located at 1530 E Saint Louis Street Springfield Missouri this stop includes a possible lunch. The property has been put up for sale but it is still open and currently has two food trucks on the property. The main reason to stop here however is the giant statue of the cook.
I live in Springfield Missouri and sometimes wish there was more of the Route 66 here but much of it has been forgotten.
If you come on your journey for Route 66 you may want to see these places as well:
Pro Bass, Steak and Shake, Rest Haven Court Hotel, History Museum in the Square, Gillioz Theater
