This weekend we took a trip from SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI to CATOOSA OKLAHOMA on the famous ROUTE 66 HWY.

We took HWY 44 to JOPLIN MISSOURI that is about 70 miles going West of Springfield. We headed to DOWNSTREAM CASINO and RESORTS. On a dirt road that is the first road on the left as you turn down Downstream Blvd we found the Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma marker where all three state lines meet. You will find the marker at the end of the road. We also visited the casino just to take a look.

From the casino we traveled to GALENA KANSAS that is only about 6 miles from the Casino going on HWY 26. You can get on ROUTE 66 in Galena.

We stopped at our fist stop and talked with Aaron Perry who is the owner of GEARHEAD CURIOS.

Aaron was restoring a shop on ROUTE 66. I recommend you stop the address is 520 S Main St. Aaron has done a great job in restoring the idea of Route 66. He has made a unique gift shop that includes a roof of license plates, a replica of Hudson Hornet, and made a flag of Kansas plates on the side of the building.

Matter of fact I am mailing some plates to add to his collection and people sign them. If you want to send some plates or bring them the address above is in Galena Kansas with zip code 66739.

If you stop by please mention the Outlaws to him!

Galena has more spots to check out down the road on Main St.  As there is another shop that has the Fire Truck, and the Tow truck from the movie Cars. You can also find some older ads on the sides on the walls, and several paintings on buildings. At the end of Main Street take a Right on the HWY ROUTE 66 and on the left is another great place to stop that has lots of photo opportunities. It has the police car and Lugies Garage with many wall paintings. You will be glad you stopped!

We followed ROUTE 66 all the way to MIAMI OKLAHOMA. This is about a 25 mile trip. You also can get on HWY 44 however in OKLAHOMA you will run into the TURNPIKE called WILL RODGERS TURNPIKE. We paid $1.75 to exit in Miami, and we paid $5.00 going back to Missouri.

Have some cash on hand they do not take cards!

In MIAMI we visited the Coleman Theater and a hamburger place that is called Wayland's Ku Ku Clock. There are some other places you can visit here as well however on today's trip we had been wanting to head to the BLUE WHALE in CATOOSA OKLAHOMA.

From Miami to Catooosa it is another 74 miles. However we made an extra stop on the way. Many people  may not be aware of this stop but it will be worth the 10 mile round trip. It is called ED GALLOWAY'S TOTEM POLE PARK. In the park is the largest concrete totem pole that was constructed from 1937 to 1961. The main totem pole is 90 feet high.

Catoosa has one of the more popular stops on ROUTE 66 called the BLUE WHALE!

The BLUE WHALE was built in early 1970 by Hugh Davis. There is a small pond around the whale and at one point was a popular swimming place. Hugh Davis added sand and picnic tables to the attraction. In 1988 the park was almost closed and after the death of Davis and his wife the park nearly was destroyed. However employees at the Hampton Inn decided to save the park and it was restored and is still one of the most popular stops on Route 66.

I hope you all get to take this OUTLAW ADVENTURE!
