However the State did not actually start taking wagers on sports until December 1st 2025.
Also the wagers are mostly presented by online apps through Nevada based companies or companies that have been online for some time like Draft Kings, Fan Duel, and MGM.
As many of you that follow me may be aware I spent nearly 16 years working in Nevada Sports Books in Las Vegas and Reno Nevada. I was excited about the legal sports wagering however it was not like the days where I worked in a casino inside a sports book. So far up to February 2026 all the wagering is all done online. There are no books to walk into to place a wager inside of Missouri State lines.
There are few casinos owned by Indian Tribes on the border that offer a live sports book.
Missouri is the 39th State to legalize sports wagering in the United States.
So far since the opening of the wagering Missouri has only made $521,000 in Tax revenues. Some believe this is due to many of the companies that offered FREE BETS, or Promotional Wagers that Missouri allows the companies to offer.
According to reports from the Missouri Gaming Commission however over 543 million dollars in wagers had been placed within the first 30 days of operations.
Only in my opinion I think it is timing because the wagering only opened as the NFL season wrapped up to the Championship Game, The NFL has always been the top sport for wagering. Opening of baseball season and college football, and college hoops. I operated a Sports Investment Company for over 3 years in Nevada often we took a break in January and February due to the lack of sports in those months to wager. I operated mostly March to January usually taking a break after the big NFL game. We would kick it back up for March Madness a college hoops tournament, and run till the end of the Big NFL Game.
Though there is the NBA,NHL, MLB, NASCAR, MMA, BOXING, and other sports you can legally wager on. Also I feel this goes with there are a lot of College Sports in Missouri as the only Pro Teams currently in the State is a baseball team called the Saint Louis Cardinals and a NFL team called the Kansas City Chiefs.
Missouri however has a lot of men's and women's college hoops.
It still may be too soon to see the actual results of making sports wagering legal as the state is entering the third month as of March 1st 2026. What I would like to see is is an acaul walk in book where you can sit down and watch a game on one of the many TVS and be able to walk up to a live person and throw down a wager plus be able to go back and cash in that ticket. I would like to see books like the old Vegas and Reno books I worked in where odds are on electronic boards, sheets of odds are printed out. Where you can have someone like me explain how to wager on sports.
A place where you have people talking and communicating about the games, maybe even it could involve some food and drinks. This is my idea of a true sports book not some app on my phone.
I don't know maybe I am just OLD SCHOOL, or maybe it is just all those years working the books, or maybe it was operating my own sports investment company.
I did open an account with MGM plus I did place a few wagers that I won but then I lost interest and that coming from me I think says a lot. Will I in the future start wagering again at this point I am not sure. I would like to test my theory and my system again that I wrote in my books on Amazon.
It has been 6 years since I left Reno, I have not visited a sports book, or thought about wagering on sports since I left. Is it something I want to do again do I have a passion for it or did I do my time already?
Also I am not sure what the outcome will be here in Missouri but I plan to keep writing blogs and keep you all up to date for 2026 and 2027.
