In 1926 the famous HWY Route 66 was proposed right here in SPRINGFIELD, MO.  The original Route 66 in Springfield would take College Street, Park Central Square, and Saint Louis Street. In 1936 however it was shifted to Kearney Street.

Today HWY 44 is the main HWY however you can still travel along the old Route 66 HWY. The ROUTE 66 you can find a lot all the way from JOPLIN to SAINT LOUIS.

There is also a small town called Galena, Kansas that was established as a mining town in 1877 but is a major stop for the ROUTE 66. Click above to find out more about this stop.

Starting in Joplin, Missouri  there are several locations around Joplin that you can visit and experience as part of Route 66.

From Joplin I would recommend taking the old ROUTE 66 HWY and not HWY 44 to Springfield.

RED OAK 2 though technically not part of ROUTE 66 this is a must see place. This is a replica of a town built by an artist and has been kept up by his family. It is a very fun place to visit.

Two other spots that you really need to visit are SPENCER STATION and GARY'S GAY PARITA .

Once you reach Springfield there are a lot of closed places that once stood as part of Route 66. In Springfield you can take College Street. Along this street you will find some older nostalgia buildings, Also on this street is the ROUTE 66 CAR MUSEUM. Also if you would love to eat at a replica of an older Route 66 cafe try COLLEGE STREET CAFE.

Finding other ROUTE 66 places is a little harder because a few places have closed but if you're looking for an overall experience  you can follow Saint Louis Street. Several places have closed like Reds Hamburger and the Food Truck restaurant stop. Though the large statue of the Grill Master still remains there.

Around Springfield however there are several murals you can find, and there is also the older brick wall that has some art of Route 66 left on it. If you venture to the ROUTE 66 VISITORS CENTER you can get some ideas on other things related to Route 66 in and around Springfield.

From Springfield you can follow the old HWY Route 66 or take HWY 44 to LEBANON, MO.

Not officially part of ROUTE 66 but you will want to stop at BUC-EES in Strafford, MO

Off HWY 44

Not officially part of ROUTE 66 but you will want to stop at REMANDS CANDY STORE and THE WORLDS LARGEST GIFT STORE in Phillpsburg, MO

Off HWY 44.

Once you're in Lebanon you will want to visit these places as part of ROUTE 66:

You will want to stop at the LEBANON-LACLEDE COUNTY LIBRARY as there is a small ROUTE 66 Museum inside.

Also in Lebanon there is a mural located at BOSWELL PARK that you will want to stop and get some photos here.

Another stop is the MUNGER MOSS MOTEL

Once leaving Lebanon you will want to continue on HWY 44 towards SAINT LOUIS, MO

Opened last year a new ROUTE 66 stop is called NEON PARK. This stop is in Saint Roberts, MO.

I believe it is  HWY EXIT 159 there are not as many signs  leading to this park. Once you exit 159 just follow the road to the Park.

A famous stop on ROUTE 66 and off of HWY 44 is URANUS, MO.

This is a fun place to stop with a large gift shop, a small circus, and a few other shops. It also has a lot of photo opportunities.

Once you leave Uranus countinue towards SAINT LOUIS on HWY 44 to a city called CUBA, MO.

You will want to visit one of the WORLDS LARGEST ROCKING CHAIRS and you will want to visit downtown CUBA as it has many MURALS.

CUBA MURALS LINK

Once we leave Cuba we are still heading toward Saint Louis on HWY 44 but we are going to make a stop at MERAMEC CAVERNS.

The next stop along Route 66 is going to be the ROUTE 66 STATE PARK in Eureka,MO.

Before heading into Saint Louis there is Non Official Route 66 stop you may want to make it is another large gas station called WALLYS.

Headed to Saint Louis we need to stop at a town called Kirkwood/ Saint Louis County you will want to visit the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF TRANSPORTATION

Another famous stop and a great little treat is TED DREWES FROZEN CUSTARD.

WE HAVE REACHED SAINT LOUIS and there are a lot of different stops here we can see.

OLD CHAIN OF ROCKS BRIDGE

NEON MUSEUM OF SAINT LOUIS

GATEWAY ARCH

So far this is the only part of Route 66 that we have completed we are planning to go from Saint Louis to Chicago. Also we have been on different parts of the old Route 66 across the country. You can see some of our videos on YOUTUBE on INSIDE/OUT  MISSOURI.
