WHAT HAPPENED TO HALLOWEEN AND WHY IS IT CHRISTMAS IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER ?
WHY IS IT CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER?
So I find myself walking around Lowes and Walmart in the first few days of October and I notice the sections for HALLOWEEN are small and the stores already have tons of Christmas stuff out.
I ask myself what is the story here?
Why are retail stores pouncing on Christmas so early?
HERE IS THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION:
THE RETAIL INDUSTRY IS BANKING ON CHRISTMAS SALES AND MONEY.
Researching the reports from consumer and government agencies last year in 2024 Halloween drove in 11.6 billion in revenue sales, This was down from 2023 that drove in 12.3 billion in revenue sales.
Compared to the Christmas that drove in 994.1 billion dollars and this was up 4% from 2023.
Online sales for Christmas also rose from 2023 to 2024 by 8.6 % reaching close to 296 billion dollars.
The industry currently projected in 2025 Christmas will have close to 1.61 to 1.62 trillion dollars in revenue sales while Halloween is projected to have close to 13.1 billion dollars.
In the industry this is called the CHRISTMAS CREEP.
It is a strategy built around the consumer (US). The stores are hoping you will shop early and currently have more to spend in the early months leading up to Christmas.
The industry has long done studies and research and found (US) the consumer has less money in December than in early October. Also the study showed in December many people actually spend less and save more because of taxes and expenses that come with the new year.
Also the consumer generally gets ready for the Christmas season knowing they are going to be spending more on gifts and extra.
Retail stores also go by the seeing the products makes us want to buy the products early to have more money in December.
In research studies done by outside agencies they reported that 25% of people started shopping in October for Christmas in 2024. This was an increase of 19% from 2023.
It is all about the industry reports and projections based on (US) the consumer.
I found some more reports from outside agencies that reported in 2023 people spent about $1750 per person in December. Also people that get bonuses or increased pay in December increased spending habits. They also reported that 36% of people get in Financial Debt. In 2024 it was estimated at $1,181 dollars of debt per person.
IN CLOSING:
The fact is retailers and the industry are putting out Christmas early because of (US) the consumer. They are banking on (US) to shop early
