On Saturday October 12th 2024 my family decided to go to an event in Mount Vernon Missouri called Apple Butter Festival. For October it was pretty hot outside hitting toward the 90 degree mark.

We had really wanted to go see the Wiener Dog races that was the whole reason we had decided to take the kids. I warn you if you go to this festival prepare for parking issues. However on the bright side we did not pay for parking and got a free ride on a shuttle golf cart to and from the event . This was a good thing because we had parked a long distance from the entrance.

The event is free entry and you do not find that much in Missouri so the event was packed. Even on a very hot day with temperatures in the high 90's the people had flocked to this event. We arrived and got a golf cart ride from the parking lot and entered the event looking for the dog races.

There had not been one sign about the races are how to find them so we walked around the court house and around the whole event and eventually had to ask a police officer patrolling the event where to go.

This is my first complaint I am going to have about this event because we had to walk nearly 6 blocks away down to a park and through a car show with no sidewalks and oncoming traffic to find the dog races. At the dog races the crowd was so large you could not even get close to watching the races and by this time we had gotten really hot and the kids had become miserable.

Since we could not get close enough to actually see the races we left and walked back to the event.

The second complaint is the vent is called Apple Butter Days but we only saw 2 booths that had any type of Apple butter all the other booths are vendors of various types. If you're having an event about Apple Butter should most of your booths have something to do with Apple Butter?

The third complaint is we walked by a food vendor selling hamburgers but the meat was being left out in the hot sun and covered in bugs. This cannot be sanitary can it?

In all fairness I can't really review the event because all we did was walk from the entrance through the vendors and down to the races and back to our car.

I will say that it had plenty of vendors all the way around the court house, and the car show did seem like it was pretty cool, and they did have the dog races as advertised. Also there was live music.

However you read my 3 complaints above so my review would be the only fun we had was riding the golf carts back and forth to our parking spot.

It was hot, the kids got miserable, and we just decided the event was not for us today, If the day would have been cooler we may have opted to stay at the races because my daughter told me the crowds this nn Ed out after a few races and you could see them. I would have sat and listened to the band and even asked my wife to a dance,

Today was not our day I don't blame the event for that but signs would be helpful next time

I would RECOMMEND you check this event out next year!
