There are 3 stops you really should do if you're following Route 66 from Joplin MO or from Springfield MO.

Depending on what direction your driving would depend on how you would find these places but we traveled from Springfield MO to Joplin.

1) RED OAK 2

This property is operated by the family of artist Lowell Davis. A man who developed the entire town of Red Oak on his property. It is really amazing to see and free but they do take donations. You can go visit the real town as well about 3 miles away but there is hardly nothing located in the town. We found a church, and an old building that was a government type of business at some point in time.

2) SPENSER STATION

I got the opportunity to talk to the owner Ed Klein. He explained to me how his family was able to purchase the property 2 years ago, They have been remodeling it ever since. His plan was to include a small gift shop, and recreate the barber shop, and small dinner. Also an older home in the back would become an Air B/B. The place was amazing you can see my video and photos on Inside/Out Missouri on Facebook or Youtube. This is also free to visit not sure if Ed is planning on donations at a later date or not I never asked him.

3) OLD SINCLAIR GAS STATION

This gas station is quite a find. If you get a chance you need to stop and look at this classic Route 66 stop.The station was restored by Gary Turner. It is  a must see on the Route 66 tour.
