Recently I ran into a scam involving BOOKING EVENTS. As a Vendor I am seeking places to set up and sell my Pokemon Cards and Merchandise. As with many other vendors and different business people seeking places to sell at requires searching mostly on-line.
In seeking events to sell at there is an increasing scam going around where as people act if they are in charge of running an event or that they are working with that event.

As a Vendor I am putting out money to rent a space at these events to sell merchandise. I am hoping these events will attract people and give me the opportunity to sell my cards and merchandise.

As a Vendor you should check out any event that you're planning to sell at.
Many events are booked on-line. This has created the issue of being scammed by people.
So here are some things you should check out while looking at events to sell at.

1) Can you verify the event : Where it is being held and who is running the event.

So Annie and I promoted events in Reno for over 4 years we learned many things,
To operate an event you must lease the event space plus have a business license, insurance, or  permits from the City or State your holding the event in.
As a Vendor you should verify this information before booking the event.
You should be able to verify where it is being held and who is running the event.
Research the place where the event is being held, contact the City to see if permits, or a business license was required.
Ask other vendors who they contacted.
As a Vendor you may be booking events outside of the area, and most likely booking online.
Therefore doing research and verifying information is going to be needed.

2) Payments on-line for events or paying cash for an event

Beware of people contacting you through FACEBOOK MARKET PLACE or MESSENGER
One way the scammers have been getting vendors is acting as if they are the person collecting the fees for the event. I recently ran into this and it was very difficult to determine the person was scamming me. This person had all the details of the event, wanted payments through Pay Pal, Vemo or Cash App.
I found a few issues like they asked a different amount for the space that was advertised, and Pay Pal had a scammer report listed for this person.
When making payments I personally do not like making them through Vemo or Cash App.
When booking an event I like to go through Pay Pal or use a credit or debit card. This way if there is an issue I can dispute it through the bank or credit card company.
If you pay cash for an event I would get a receipt and make sure the person you're paying is running the operation.

In closing I hope my blog helps you avoid being scammed and  having issues down the road.
